"I can't do it"
"I'm not good enough"
"They're better than I am"
"I didn't do enough"
These are all phrases that we find ourselves saying from time to time. Why do we say these things? What makes us believe that we're anything less than what we want to be. Who told you that you can't do it? Who told you that you're not good enough?
No matter what you do in life, at some point you will come across this feeling of not being "enough" or not doing "enough". You may even meet people who make you feel useless, unwanted, or invalidated. For the past few years, I've been fortunate enough to work with some incredible people on some truly impactful projects. Through these projects, I learned so much about myself. But what I really gained, was perspective.
Instead of feeling insecure that I wasn't as good at what I do as the next person, or guilty that I couldn't do as much as someone else, I started to believe that I'm doing all that I can. As human beings, we're never fully satisfied. We will always feel like we're not enough or we didn't do enough. But the important thing to remember, is that as long that all that you do is done to your fullest, and done with love, it's alright.
We need to stop comparing ourselves to other people, or feeling insecure/guilty about the things we can't go back and change.
You CAN do it. You ARE good enough. They may be better, but one day you WILL get there. You did all that you could. And if no one else is proud of you, be proud of yourself. (By Tanishka Murthy, EGJ Co-director, 2021.09.05)
