EGJ Members Participate in the National Youth Climate Conference

What is the National Youth Climate Conference?

It is said that the new coronavirus has exposed potential vulnerabilities, and it is suggested that not only environmental issues but also human rights issues such as inequality and disparity, the relationship between politics and the public, and the social system itself, including businesses and economic activities, should be "Great Reset". In the process of recovery from the Corona disaster, "BBB=Build back better (rebuilding is for better things)" is required.

Japan's climate change measures, which have made slow progress, are gaining momentum under the Kan cabinet, which has announced a carbon-neutral, decarbonized society by 2050 and established a "National Council" to promote decarbonization. However, there is still no concrete substance or milestone, and public awareness is still not high.

Therefore, we will establish a citizen's council of about 100 young people to discuss climate change measures as a "permanent forum for young people to exchange opinions". Through this conference, we will make proposals to various organizations (national government, government administration, companies, etc.).

There are three main objectives.

1. Early realization of environmental policies

2. open forum for discussion

3. Raising public opinion through communication
